Girl with bangs. Which style is right for you?

8 Types of Bangs — Which is Right for You?

So many of this summer’s hottest hair trends include bangs, it’s no wonder you’re considering rocking your own super cute fringe. And it’s a great time to try them out since there are plenty of in-style bangs to choose from. But how do you choose bangs that will flatter your face instead of making you look like a 5th grader with a home haircut? Here are eight types of bangs and how to know which is right for you.

Curtain Bangs

Curtain bangs are still in style, and they’re a great choice for round faces. Because curtain bangs are long and feathered, they work to slim your face. Plus, they totally give off a carefree summer vibe. And since they’re parted in the middle with longer lengths on the sides, it’s easy to grow this style out if you’re not totally sure you want bangs long-term.

Feathers

Like curtain bangs, feathered bangs are on the longer side, but they don’t have a center part. Instead, your stylist will cut textured bangs just below your eyebrows. Feathered bangs are perfect if you like to change your bangs up since they’re looser and can lay any way you’d like. They work well with oval, square, or heart-shaped faces.

Micro Bangs

On the opposite end of the spectrum are micro bangs, which are definitely having a moment right now. Micro bangs sit high on your forehead, creating a bold look. If you’re looking to make a big change, trying micro bangs could be just what you need. They work particularly well for oval or oblong faces.

Shaggy

Shag cuts are on trend this year, so adding shaggy bangs just makes sense. Shaggy bangs should blend well into your overall cut, so be sure to ask for lots of layers. Shaggy bangs work well with most face shapes, and they’re a perfect choice for summer when you want a more relaxed style.

Curly, Coily, and Wavy

We’re loving the trend of embracing natural hair textures, and that trend extends to bangs, too! If you have naturally curly, coily, or wavy hair, you can rock bangs and your natural texture. It is, however, important that you visit a stylist familiar with how to cut curly and wavy hair. And don’t forget that your bangs will end up shorter than when they are first cut, so take that into account when deciding how long you want your bangs to be.

Blunt

Blunt bangs always make a dramatic statement. Precision-cut blunt bangs are instantly eye-catching and are an excellent choice for oval or oblong faces. But remember, a good stylist is the difference between a stunning straight edge and the awkward, uneven bangs nightmares are made of. So be sure you trust your stylist before taking the plunge.

Long

Long bangs are a wonderful choice for most face shapes, and they’re also ideal if you want to try bangs without a big commitment. Try curved bangs that become longer at the sides, or opt for long face-framing bangs. Alternatively, choose side-swept bangs for a graceful style that’s superb for round faces.

Braids and Dreads

If you have braids or dreadlocks, you don’t have to sit this one out! Braids and dreadlocks make super cute bangs. Just talk to your stylist about what style and length works best for your face shape. Cutting bangs longer toward the sides of your face is typically a flattering choice.
