Summer is here, and you’re itching to get to the beach. Swimming, surfing, lounging on the beach, collecting seashells, hanging out at the boardwalk, or taking a moonlit stroll along the shore--what’s not to love?
Going to the beach is awesome, but all the wind, sun, and salt water can wreak havoc on your hair. So what can you do? Here are five post-beach hair care tips to keep your hair healthy and looking fabulous.
Wash Right Away
After you’ve been swimming in salt water, it’s important to wash your hair right away. The longer salt water sits on your hair, the more moisture it pulls out. If you want to avoid dry, brittle hair, you need to head to the shower and give your hair a quick wash.
Viori bars are super convenient to carry with you, so you don’t have to lug around a bottle of shampoo. Just pack your bars with your towels and spend a few minutes washing and conditioning your hair. You’ll thank us later.
If you absolutely can’t shower immediately, rinsing with bottled water will help remove some of the salt. But you should still wash your hair properly as soon as you have access to a shower.
Replace the Moisture
Salt water draws moisture out of your hair, leaving it dry and prone to breakage. After washing, make sure to condition your hair. Hidden Waterfall is a great choice to add some much-needed moisture back into your locks.
You can also use a hair mask or deep-conditioning spray, but pay attention to ingredients. You don’t want to irritate your scalp with sulfates or parabens, and silicone will build up on your hair, preventing the moisture you need from getting inside.
Try Natural Oils
We always include moisturizing ingredients in our bars, like natural cocoa and shea butter, bamboo, aloe vera, rice bran oil, and of course, Longsheng rice water, so using Viori after a day at the beach is a great first step to replenishing your hair’s moisture.
But what if it’s super parched? Like the salt water and sun fried your hair so badly you’re pretty sure it would snap like a cracker if you brushed it kind of parched? If your hair needs some extra help, try natural oils like coconut, avocado, or rice bran.
Take It Easy
No matter how awesome you want to look for your night out, post-beach isn’t the best time to style your hair with tools or even brush it much. The sun and salt water have taken their toll, and your hair will be much more susceptible to breakage.
Enjoy the long-and-loose look, pop on your favorite hat, or tousle shorter styles. If you really must put your hair up, brush it as little as possible. A braid is a terrific choice to protect your locks. And if you opt for a ponytail, use hair ties made of silky material. They’re less likely to break your hair.
A day at the beach doesn’t have to mean a post-beach bad hair day. Just remember to wash off the elements, replace the moisture, and give your hair a little extra TLC.
Next time you hit the beach, why not bring your Viori bars along in some of our bamboo bar holders? They’re designed for excellent drainage and add the perfect tropical vibe.
