5 Tips to Care for Thin Hair

Thin hair can be sleek, stylish, and beautiful. It can also be limp, lackluster, and greasy. If you have thin hair, you know it can sometimes feel like there’s a very fine line between the two.

Fortunately, there are some tried-and-true tips that will keep your thin hair in top form. Here are some of our favorites.

Shampoo Less Frequently

The struggle is real when you have thin hair. It gets greasy quickly, and it’s tempting to shampoo every day. Unfortunately, that can create a never-ending cycle where your body actually produces more oil as it tries to replace what was lost due to washing.

Instead of washing every day, try going two or three days between washes. You may find that your hair is actually less greasy that way. And if you do find yourself with excess oil, just use a bit of dry shampoo to soak it up.

Don’t Skip Conditioner

We are often tempted to skip conditioner for the same reason we shampoo too much--we don’t want our hair to look greasy. But some oil is essential for the health of your hair.

When you use shampoo, your hair cuticles are lifted, and your natural oils are washed away. If you don’t replace that moisture and seal your cuticles with conditioner, your hair will become dry, brittle, and easily broken.

If you have problems with oil weighing down your thin hair, we recommend using Citrus Yao. It cuts through excess oil without stripping your hair, leaving it healthy and moisturized but not greasy.

Style Without Heat

Fine hair is prone to frizz, which makes us want to blow-dry and heat style every day. Unfortunately, that can damage your hair, causing it to break and appear even thinner.

Instead, allow your hair to air dry most of the way, and if you need to blow-dry, try drying upside-down to add volume to your roots. Always use a heat protectant when you blow-dry or style your hair with heat. And consider using rollers instead of heat tools if you want to curl your hair.

Consider a New Cut

Trimming your hair frequently is important if you have thin hair. You’ll want to keep split ends at bay; otherwise, your hair will continue splitting, and your hair will appear thinner. Getting regular trims will help keep your hair healthy and protect it from breaking.

Thin hair is awesome just as it is, and we encourage you to rock your hair any way you want! After all, is there anything more chic than a perfect, sleek, thin ponytail à la Sofia Carson? We think not. But if you want your hair to appear fuller, consider a shorter cut. Your hair will appear thicker if it’s not weighed down. A blunt cut can also add the appearance of thicker hair.

Watch Your Diet

Many people experience thin hair as part of aging or illness. If you suddenly have thinner hair than you had before or if you simply want your thin hair to be as healthy as possible, it makes sense to look at what you’re eating because so much of our hair’s health comes from within.

Some foods that are good for hair include avocados, eggs, leafy greens, fish, nuts, and berries. You can also add a multivitamin if you feel like you’re not getting enough nutrition from your diet.

If you’ve been struggling with your thin hair, try incorporating these tips into your routine. Your tresses will be healthy and beautiful again in no time!

Hi Anna! It is possible for your hair to regain color, but it happens on the regrowth of new hair. We are not seeing people’s gray hair immediately change color, we are seeing the new regrowth of their hair returning to its original color. Where people had patches of straight gray, they are seeing new colored growth. We have several cases of this already.

Even if your hair is already gray, white or even colored, our shampoo and conditioner bars are built to increase the strength and health of your hair. Results are going to vary from person-to-person, but we have seen anecdotal, customer experiences that have seen less graying and colored, new growth. The ingredients we use in our bars should produce great results for your hair, even if we can’t guarantee that your graying will go away. We are currently conducting studies to further strengthen our claims. Many of our individual ingredients have 3rd party, clinical studies backing their performance. We hope this helps! Let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for commenting, Linda! Yes! We have a close working relationship with several Red Yao families in China. What we do is purchase Longsheng rice from those partnering families at a premium and in bulk. We use the same technique and processes they use to make the fermented rice water (typically fermented for up to 10 days) and include this key ingredient in a format most customers would be comfortable using daily/regularly (i.e. our natural shampoo and conditioner bars).⁣ ⁣
⁣⁣
No less than 5% of profits is given back through projects or purchases that the Red Yao requests. Our Corporate Social Responsibility team located on the grounds in China have been tracking and reporting their current progress in regards to our give-back initiatives. See below for links to detailed logs of how the money has been used so far. In addition, we have recently announced that we will be attributing $100,000 towards our Beautiful Reason Initiatives – this is actually 15-16% of our total profits.⁣

All of those tips are great. I do all of it, because about 6 yrs ago i was losing alot of hair because of health issues, so, i started researching ways to help my hair grow back. I wash it once a week, Use different oils on it some of the time. But, it’s also very fine, so, i have to really balance how much oil i use etc.. Also, i started taking supplements which helped the most, i believe.
Also, i am 55 and have very little gray.

Question, Are the hair products formulated like the local women make in this isolated area of China? Or is it their rice that you use and have a different formulation?
