6 Plant-Derived Ingredients to Make Your Hair Happy

6 Plant-Derived Ingredients to Make Your Hair Happy

Everyone loves plants. They’re beautiful, create the oxygen we breathe, and give us food to eat. Plus, they’re pretty awesome for your hair. So in honor of International Plant Appreciation Day, we thought it was a good time to celebrate some of the plants that make Viori possible. Here are six plant-derived ingredients to make your hair happy.

Bamboo

Bamboo is an amazing plant. It grows quickly, making it a sustainable resource, it’s nutritious to eat, and it’s strong enough to be used as a construction material! As a hair care ingredient, bamboo extract helps cleanse and strengthen your hair, along with smoothing it and adding shine. P.S. We think it makes super cute combs and bar holders, too.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has been used for centuries to soothe minor cuts and burns. And it turns out, it’s also pretty great for your hair. Aloe vera contains loads of vitamins, amino acids, and fatty acids that help strengthen your tresses. Plus, it’s moisturizing, can reduce excess oil, and helps get rid of dandruff. There’s even some evidence aloe vera can help reduce hair loss. Is there anything aloe vera can’t do?

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter is the fat extracted from cocoa beans. You may have used cocoa butter as a soothing lotion or to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Those same moisturizing and restoring qualities make cocoa butter beneficial for your hair, too.  It’s excellent for conditioning, moisturizing, and softening your locks, which is why you’ll find it in all our shampoo and conditioner bars.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is made by extracting the fat from the nuts that grow on the African shea tree. Like cocoa butter, it has a history of use dating back thousands of years! Shea butter is excellent for conditioning and moisturizing your hair and is particularly beneficial if you have curly or coarse hair.

Broccoli Seed Oil

Ah, poor maligned broccoli, the plant so many of us loved to hate as children. If you still don’t like broccoli, you might want to make an exception, at least for your hair. That’s because broccoli seed oil is pretty incredible stuff. It contains tons of fatty acids that help your hair shine. Plus, it’s full of antioxidants and vitamins, including vitamin A, which is often used to help prevent the effects of aging. More broccoli, please!

Rice

We saved the best for last. After all, Longsheng rice water is the superstar ingredient in all our Viori bars. But we don’t only use rice water. Viori bars also feature hydrolyzed rice protein and rice bran oil. These rice-derived ingredients provide a whole host of benefits for your hair. Longsheng rice water helps repair, rejuvenate, and smooth your hair, while hydrolyzed rice protein and rice bran oil add strength, volume, and shine. There’s a good reason the Red Yao have used rice water on their hair for centuries–it works!

This International Plant Day, why not celebrate by giving your hair the plant-derived ingredients that make it happy? Pick up a new Viori bar, or relax by whipping up a DIY hair mask with plant-based ingredients. We have some awesome recipes here featuring plant-based ingredients like avocado, olive oil, coconut oil, and aloe vera that are sure to make your hair happy.

Happy International Plant Day!
